17th c. Style Sterling Silver Chalice,

17th c. Style Sterling Silver Chalice,
bearing the Royal Coat of Arms for James I above the motto "Beati Pacifi," the cup with allover hand-chased decoration including a griffin, a stag, and a phoenix bird rising above a crown, the stem decorated with Scottish thistles and the round foot with trailing roses, a hand-engraved inscription encircles the cup and foot and reads "By Virtuous Living Doth alle honour Rife An euille Life Brings Infamie and shame to follow his Councell that as most Wife Bring endles Glory and Immortal fame. Such as on earth God's Glory do advance shall ever be had in Remembrance. Eternal Wo shall fale But sure the name of evill Doers shall rott. For every one shall beceive acording to the works donne and unto their Lott." The chalice bears three rubbed hallmarks - the first appears to be a crown. The interior of the chalice is gold washed. 10.5 troy ozs. 7.5" From a Private Collection in North Carolina
