Girtin (Thomas) A View of Pont Neuf, Paris

Girtin (Thomas, 1775-1802) A View of Pont Neuf, Paris,
pen with black and grey ink, with two tones of grey wash, 150 x 365mm., titled and dated, lower right, backed with acid-free paper, framed and glazed, 1801.

***The drawing dates from Thomas Girtin's last trip to Paris, in late 1801 to early 1802, when he was already in failing health. Here he produced a number of drawings and watercolours from which he produced his famous series 'A Selection of Twenty of the most Picturesque Views in Paris and its Environs'. He died later in 1802 and the series was published posthumously by his brother, in 1803..
