Housed in original white Betacloth 8.25"x4.25"x2.25" compartmentalized holder with Velcro closure, these twelve Scotch C-60 cassettes (#271) with various songs, personal messages from wives, comedy routines and even commercials, were carried to the Moon and back during the July 26-August 7,1971 mission of Apollo 15. Command Module Pilot Al Worden has written on the front: 'Flown Aboard Apollo 15. July 26-August 7 1971 Al Worden CMP' in black. Sewn onto front of holder is parts tag which reads: 'TAPE CASSETTE KIT P/N SEB33100566-301; S/N 1004; MFG. BY CSD/MSC 7/70'. Contents of the tape read like a 'time capsule' from the early 1970s. Music on tapes includes: 'Fly Me To the Moon', 'Come Fly With Me', 'Sounds of Silence'-Simon & Garfunkel, 'Excerpts from the book by James Cook: 'First Voyage Around the World', 'Green Grass of Home', 'Yellow Submarine', 'House of the Rising Sun', many more. These tapes have not been tested by us, but appears to be functional. Some light soiling on Betacloth case & spotting on cassette labels does not detract. A magnificent showpiece for the music or Space Memorabilia collection of the finest museum quality collection.
