Fire and Rare Pennsylvania Softwood Paint Decorated Dower Chest. Front panel decorated with six arched top panels with potted floral and foliate motif in the style of Heinrich Otto. Side panels decorated with eight point stars, molded lid and base with wrought iron strap hinges, (jaw lock missing), interior till, no evidence of ever having feet, 22-1/2" h. x 51" w. x 23" d., Illustrated in "The Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest" by Monroe H. Fabian, page 197, item 219. This was found in the Patriotic Sons of American Hall in Hampton, Adams County, Pa. where, for many years, it was used to store their band uniforms, Ex. Elgin collection.
