Albert Pettengill No.4 Nickel Plated Brass Side Mount Trout Reel. This circa 1887 side mount reel, having a 2 7/8" dia. and 1" wide spool, is just behind the rare No. 1 model in scarcity. Made without the typical Pettengill enclosed frame, this open spool reel has only a "No. 4" marking on the foot, with an incorporated finger actuated drag. With slight foot alterations that include light surface scratches and a replaced spool screw with an early rivet, in good condition.
