Uncolored copper engraving, “Der Americanische Gener. Arnold”, 6” x 3.5”, matted and framed along with signature in brown ink, “B Arnold”, to an overall size of 13” x 8.5”, c. 1780, Mint. A superb, bold signature, and a crisp period engraving, depicting the infamous general in American uniform.
Arnold (1741-1801), the Revolutionary War major general and traitor, helped repulse the British in the Mohawk Valley and fought Burgoyne at Saratoga. His plot to surrender West Point to the British was discovered, and thereafter he led British raids in Virginia and Connecticut.
