Description

This remarkable assembly of sea scorpions contains two virtually complete specimens, one being 5” long and the other being 3.5” long and parts of six others in a 7”x 6” hard stone matrix. Sea scorpions were major predators in the Siberian seas 425 million years ago. Also they were probably the first large animals to crawl onto land. These lovely, chocolate brown fossils are only found in the Camanesk Podolskiy mine located in the Ukraine. The smallest detail is preserved in their exoskeleton, with both patterns and even some wrinkling that occurred as the thin outer covering fossilized being displayed. Their eyes are clearly visible as well as their telson, “stinger”. Even some of the delicate walking legs are still preserved in several of the specimens. Usually, only found as a single specimen, this grouping is most unusual and impressive.
