***Katherine Lewis was the youngest daughter of Sir George Henry Lewis one of the most successful solicitors of his day. His wife was Elizabeth Eberstadt and during their early years of marriage entertained many of the major artists of their time including Burne-Jones, Whistler, Henry James, Oscar Wilde, J.M.Barrie to name but a few. The Lewises were particularly close friends with Burne-Jones, and during 1882 Wilde corresponded with Mrs Lewis while he toured America showing regard and gratitude in his letters..
