Description
comprising a settee, armchair, two side chairs, each of laminated rosewood with elaborate pierce-carved crest, cabriole legs and silk damask upholstery, attributed to Meeks, New York, circa 1850s, settee 46 x 62-1/2 x 30 in., armchair 42 x 26 x 25 in. Refinished, settee with later braces to back of crest, armchair with rear legs pieced approximately 3 in., one side chair with cracks and patches at front feet, other cracks, minor repairs to veneers and laminations, upholstery with some surface dust and fading, not examined under upholstery. A closely related settee attributed to Meeks is illustrated in [19th Century America,] Metropolitan Museum of Art, catalog number 136.
