A carved stone sculpture titled Caracal Lynx and signed B. Callender in the stone base on its lower back side. Bessie Stough Callender was a native of Wichita, Kansas who specialized in the sculpture of Animal and Zoological subjects. She studied at the Art Students League of New York and Academy de la Grand Chaumiere in Paris, France. Her exhibition venues include the Royal Academy of London and The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Under the base of this piece is a paper label reading WALKER ART GALLERY, LIVERPOOL, TITLE Ram Verde di Prato ARTIST Mrs. Bessie Callender TO BE RETURNED TO 4 Lyndhurst Gardens London, N.W. 3. Measurements are 31 x 10 x 12 inches.
Condition reportVery good noting a small flake to one ear edge, lightly soiled surface in some scattered areas, also minor white residue from contact with a foreign surface, left side of base has considerable dusty white and gray residue from contact with an unknown surface or material.
