American born, Margot Van Boorhies Carr arrived in Taxco in 1937 where she met and married Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo. After their marriage ended in 1948, Margot set up her own workshop and retail outlet and employed a number of talented smilths including: Miguel Arias, Hilario Lopez, Miguel Melendez, Melicio Rodriguez and Jaime Quiroz. She is best known for her pieces that combine silver & enamel. She produced jewelry until her death in 1974. Beautifully enameled profile of a lady with a bird as a head which are two separate pieces soldered. Yellow, orange, blue, black and gray in color. Can double as a necklace and a pin. Pendant is removeable and has pin. Necklace closes with a push clasp. 20" L; signed Hecho en Mexico 925, Eagle shield #16, Margot de Taxco and numbered 3242. Excellent condition.
