DESCRIPTION: Edouard Cortes (French, 1882-1969). Painting. Oil on canvas. The Sunny Bank. Signed lower right "Edouard Cortes". Housed in gilt frame with linen liner and tag marked "The Sunny Bank Edouard Cortes". Findlay Galleries label reverse. Edouard Leon Cortes was born in Lagny, France on April 26, 1882. While many are familiar with his Parisian Street scenes, Cortes also painted many landscapes and interiors in the Normandy and Brittany areas when he returned to Lagny in 1925. Like this piece, these paintings captured simple and quiet scenes of the countryside, often incorporating a few figures going about their daily life. PROVENANCE: The painting was purchased by the consignor's parents at Findlay Galleries, Chicago, Illinois in 1956. MEASUREMENTS: 12" x 17". Overall with frame 20" x 25". CONDITION: Minor crazing to frame.
