Whichcote (Thomas, student at the Royal Academy, Portsmouth) A Plan of Mathematical Learning Taught in the Royal Academy, Portsmouth,manuscript, title and 509pp., watercolour wash frontispiece, watercolour illustrations, pen and ink diagrams some with watercolour and maps (1 folding), ruled throughout, 8pp. at end loose, others working loose, slightly browned, hinges and joints split, contemporary tree calf, rubbed and scratched, upper cover detaching, corners worn, gilt spine, folio, 27th April 1804.
***Inscription on front free endpaper: "Thomas Whichcote of His Majesty's Ship ye Beaulieu of 44 Guns." HMS Beaulieu was built at Buckler's Hard and commissioned in 1793 under the command of Captain The Earl of Northesk. Beaulieu served in the West Indies and the Channel under a variety of captains. In 1801 the Beaulieu was involved in an attack on the harbour of Brest and helped in the capture of the French ship Chevrette. In 1803 the Beaulieu became a training ship in Portsmouth Harbour..
