The Holy Bible, Authorised version, first folio edition, Great "He" Bible, double column, black letter, engraved title washed trimmed and mounted but generally intact, lacks one leaf of Kalender, one other preliminary leaf ("An Almanacke...), 4P6 torn out with only small portion remaining, also lacking Aa1 and Aa6 at end, the latter supplied in facsimile, double-page engraved map also supplied in facsimile, repairs to several leaves at beginning and end, occasionally affecting text, some water-staining, heavy at beginning and end, main body of text generally in good condition with reasonable margins, modern rexine, [Herbert 309; STC 2216; PMM 114], folio, by Robert Barker, 1611.***The editio princeps of King James' Bible, also known as the Great "He" Bible because of the reading he went into the citie in Ruth iii, 15. "For every Englishman who had read Sidney or Spencer, or had seen Shakespeare acted at the Globe, there were hundreds who had read or heard the Bible with close attention as the words of God. The effect of the continual study of the book upon the national character, imagination and intelligence for nearly three centuries to come, was greater than that of any literary movement in the annals, or any religious movement since the coming of St. Augustine."
