Bible, Polyglot. Biblia Sacra Polyglotta

Bible, Polyglot. Biblia Sacra Polyglotta,
6 vol., edited by Brian Walton, engraved title and portrait frontispiece to each vol. (though only called for in vol.1 by D&M), vol.1 with engraved plates, some double-page, and double-page plan and map, ruled in red throughout, 18th century mottled calf, gilt, crudely repaired with leather in top and bottom compartment of each spine, rubbed and some wear to corners, [Darlow & Moule 1446; Wing B2797], Thomas Roycroft, 1657-69; together with Castell (Edmund) Lexicon Heptaglotton, 2 vol., lacking portrait, 18th century calf, worn, crudely rebacked, [Wing C1224], Thomas Roycroft, 1669, folio(8)

***Complete copy of the great London Polyglot. This is the fourth and greatest of all the polyglots and includes Hebrew, Greek, Chaldean, Syriac, Arabic, Ethiopic and Persian. In editing this monumental work Walton became blind. This copy is magnificently ruled in red throughout and is enhanced by the addition of Castell's Lexicon. Castell helped Walton on the Bible, contributing the Samaritan, Syriac, Arabic and Ethiopic versions and also provided financial support to the venture. His Lexicon took eighteen years to complete and cost the author about £12,000, leaving him ruined in fortune and health..
