Erwin Blumenfeld (1897-1969) untitled (nude) c.19

Gelatin silver print, printed c.1943 by the photographer, stamped on verso, 34x26cm (13x10in.). Provenance: Yorick Blumenfeld; the Estate of Erwin Blumenfeld, 1969. The family Estate of Erwin Blumenfeld believe that this print was made around the time Blumenfeld opened his New York studio in 1943. This date is reaffirmed by the image appearing in Lilliput as early as September 1945. Hendel Teicher, author of My 100 Best Pictures, identifies the print as being made earlier, in Paris in 1938 (see lit.p.58.). At least one other print is known to exist in a private collection, although the provenance and condition of this particular print are excellent.
