Van Briggle green mat vase, 1902, shape 61, 12 7/8

Rare and early Van Briggle vase with very stylized roses done in 1902 under a rich green mat glaze. The rose flowers are three dimensional in a band around the rim and the stems (with very pronounced thorns) are incised into the clay body. Incised AA logo along with 'Van Briggle 1902 III" and impressed with shape number 61. Height 12 7/8 inches. Faint overall crazing, a 1/8 inch chip out of one of the rose petals and two 1/16" flat glaze nicks off the base which are not visible from the side. A 1903 example is pictured in Sasicki on color plate 215.
