scene at Montpelier Institute, Macon, Georgia, man bearing shovel and walking on a track through a field, inscribed lower left "Montpelier 1853", after Blanche Munroe, Georgia, 1836-1917; (married John McIntosh Kell, 1823-1900, in 1856, Africa, Georgia), watercolor on wove paper, 5 x 6 in.; 20th century wood frame. Laid down on card with mucilage, glue and paper residue on left margin, foxing at edges; frame with abrasions. Note from an exhibition card: "Montpelier Institute was a school for girls near Macon, Georgia, founded in the 1840s by Stephen Elliott, Jr. The Artist was a student there in 1853." It is thought that the figure in the watercolor may be one of the gardeners from the Institute.
