(British/Georgia, 1751-1840), Bald Eagle, No. 133, Abbot notes: "Length 3 feet 4 inches. Sometimes frequents the Ponds catching Ducks & Fish. Is not common here, the Young One is called the Grey Eagle," watercolor and graphite on wove(?) paper affixed to Chetham Library's volume, bordered paper, original page 11-1/8 x 8-3/4 in., volume page 16-1/8 x 11-7/8 in.; black-painted and gilt wood frame. Tacked in with glue, light foxing, grime, very light toning; frame with abrasions. Provenance: Collection of artist; John Leigh Philips, 1761-1814, Manchester; John Radcliffe, a proprietor and librarian of Chetham Library; Chetham Library, Manchester; Christie's, New York, October 1, 1980, lot 127 (four volumes); Andrew Crawley, Director, Ibarcord Group Fine Arts; Purchased by the Griffins in January, 1981.
