Huge Scenic Vellum landscape vase depicting snow covered terrain in the Canadian Rockies, the work of Carl Schmidt in 1913. Marked with the Rookwood symbol, the date, shape 1369 B, an impressed V for Vellum body and an incised V for Vellum Glaze and the artist's monogram. There is fine crazing. The vase is quite unusual, for it is site specific: the Rocky Mountains in Calgary. Rookwood generally avoided depicting specific locales, seeking to avoid creating what they thought of as "tourist ware." It is also unusual for its size and for the wonderful detail of the scene. Height is 15 inches.
