Venice: Jacobum Pentium de Leucho, 20 May 1523. 407 ff., paginated (+ title, + blank). C.&p. Title page printed in red and black surrounded by border on three sides of acanthus and three standing putti, featuring a red cardinal's hat and 10 tassels at the bas-de-page. 45 lines and headlines, double column, Gothic type, printed marginalia, historiated woodcut initials. Contemporary vellum, blue edges. Condition: lacking the tabula (8 leaves, +ii blanks), margins shaved, scattered ink annotations and underlines, some leaves browned; rubbed, covers bowed. Provenance: "Ex Libris Hyacinthi Compayre" (17th-century inscription to endpaper); Conventus Se. Ma. Angelorum Publei, 1788 (bookplate). The 'Forty Golden Teachings' and sermons of Albert of Padua, renowned Dominican scholar and travelling missionary later teacher to Thomas Aquinas. Often referred to doctor universalis for his wide spectrum of knowledge, Albert of Padua was immensely significant to the development of Western Christian thought. [With:] AN ETHIOPIC MANUSCRIPT [19th Century]. miniature manuscript on vellum, mostly in 10's (84 x 55 mm). 52 leaves of heavy parchment, prickings visible at fore-edge. 15 lines written in clear Ge'ez script in black and red ink bound in with a similar manuscript written in 11 lines, opening page ornamented with an interlaced border at head, contemporary talismanic drawing in brown and yellow on last leaf. Sewn onto wooden boards. Condition: leaves cockled, browned and curled; boards rubbed, a bit loose. (2)
