[Collation: a8, b6, a8, b8, c-z8, 18, 28, 48, A8, B8, D8, E-S8, T4 (original final blank)]. Title printed in red and black with portrait of the author, full-page border of two triangular blocks and a pair of mermaids bearing the printer's device. Double column, 58 lines and headlines, Gothic letter type, numerous six- and seven-line chapter initials with floriated infills. Later vellum, ms. title to spine, partly effaced. Condition: some slight dampstaining, mainly to gutter and most severe at first few leaves, margins shaved affecting some text, two ink blots to fore-edge bled into margins at last two quires, ink annotations and underlines, small tear and spots to title; extremities rubbed, corners bumped. Hain 4161. The Mariale of Bernadini de Busti was first published in Milan in 1494. Written as a defence for the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, his theory is an embodiment of the new Marian faith and devotion in late medieval Europe.
