The title within a woodcut border containing 15 coats of arms, an eight-line engraved opening initial 'A' with three putti on the infill.19th-century polished calf, spine lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins. Placed in is an autograph letter signed 'T.F. Dibdin'. Kensington: 5 November 1824. 1 p., (229 x 165). A word of thanks, "I return to you your curious Latin tract with thanks for the perusal of it. The condition is quite piquante to a Biblio-maniac!..." Condition: some occasional spotting, some areas slightly faded, edges frayed; some light scuffs. Provenance: "Captne: Michiels" (stamped with printing types on title). an interesting political document from renaissance france. A defence for the French Christian King settling the blame of the accused 'Gauls' and asking for their belief in him. Gilbert Bayard, the author, was the Secretary of State (secrétaire et contrôleur des guerres) and Minister of Finance to King François I.
