EROTICA -- Félicien ROPS (1833 - 1898). Collection of aquatints.Includes: 7 large hand-colored aquatints (largest 370 x 255 mm). Many numbered, stamped signed, and with remarque additions. Includes L'Incantation, numbered 158/200, signed in the plate; Vina Vitum; Souvenirs D'Antan. [With:] 22 smaller format aquatints and lithographs. Many titled in pencil at foot. Condition: many cockled, some spotting, toning. Rops, a Belgian printmaker and painter in oils is best known for his erotic imagery in the age of Symbolism. A friend of Gautier, Alfred de Musset, Mallarmé, Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, and Joséphin Péladan, he was particularly struck by Baudelaire, and executed the frontispiece for his Les Épaves, a group of poems published in Belgium after having been censored in France.(29)
