Condition: many cockled, some spotting, toning. Rops, a Belgian printmaker and painter in oils is best known for his erotic imagery in the age of Symbolism. A friend of Gautier, Alfred de Musset, Mallarmé, Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly, and Joséphin Péladan, he was particularly struck by Baudelaire, and executed the frontispiece for his Les Épaves, a group of poems published in Belgium after having been censored in France.(29)
