
Civil War Major General dress epaulettes
Description
Major General's dress epaulettes. Flat gold bullion, with two applied high relief embroidered silver bullion, five-pointed stars with a gold wire outline. High relief gold wire border and a gilt brass crescent. Gold wire spring fringe. Screw type American eagle buttons. Red silk/leather lining, with a long hinged brass frame for attaching to uniform. Silver metal shields (with one large star and twelve smaller ones) were probably attached after the Civil War.
