Confederate "Dog River" Cavalry saber. Modeled after the U.S. M1840, but with a crude cast brass pommel cap and three-branch guard. Iron wire wrapped leather on a tapered wood grip. 36 1/8" curved blade with an unstopped fuller. Gray with dark spots. Crude iron scabbard with a 2" separation along the "wrapping" line. Two bands – one ring is missing. Shows wear, has two dents and traces of dull gold paint. As found.
