Lajos Bruck, 1846-1910, Hungarian. Lajos Bruck was born in Hungary in 1846. He studied art at the Vienna Academy of Fine Art and the Munkacsy. From 1869 he traveled, painting works in Italy, Paris and London. He mainly exhibited his paintings at the Salon in Paris, France and the Royal Academy, London, England, but also continued to show pieces in Budapest and Vienna. At the end of his life he returned to Budapest where he died in 1910. Today his works hang in the National Gallery of Budapest, Hungry, while many others are in private collections across Europe. Bruck gained great favor and recognition with private collectors throughout Europe with his genre and portrait paintings. He was frequently asked to paint commissioned works for wealthy patrons who wished to be portrayed in their favorite settings. Painting depicts a lady in her nightgown and nightcap. She is reading the morning paper while sitting at the table stirring her coffee or tea. Measures 21" L x 16.5" W. Set in gilt frame, craquelure throughout and reniforced foam attached to back. Attached nameplate to front which reads "Lajos Bruck".
