1950'S TALLAHASSEE CHAPTER KKK LUCKY 13 LOT

Sign In to see what this sold for

This is an extensive and unique lot of what is presumed to be the only written record in existence of items relating to the Lucky 13, Tallahassee's chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. Includes 4 KKK membership cards dated 1953, punched with a KKK emblem and numbered for individual member identification. Two are printed "Southern Knights K.K.K.: Death to Red Communism" while the others are "North Florida ASS'N". There are two paper pamphlets, one labeled the "Kloran" for the Southern and Northern Knights of the KKK listing officers by number and clan-theme title as well as ceremonial oaths, prayers, and preparations, the other a list of by-laws and member's fees titled "SK-KKK Original Klan N.S.S.A. 1951". A miniature address book along with multiple rolodex pages stands as the index of Lucky 13 member name's along with their assigned number, date of assignment, and contact info. The most notable of the lot is a binder, fairly dilapidated on the exterior but with pages intact and writing legible, recording the local group's weekly minutes spanning the 1950's (earliest dates are 1944/45) with multiple recorded references to cross burnings, calling campaigns such as one concerning "a negro woman at A&M College demanding to be called misses", desire to take action against the senate's genocide treaty, elections of clan officials as recorded on June 16, 1952, and local businesses. There are also three letters from the KKK Grand Dragon located in Tampa Florida to a brother John Hanna located in Tallahassee dated July 6th, March 22nd, and April 1st 1954, regarding money and political matters. Finally, the collection contains notices, financial and otherwise, from The Lewis State Bank, Pasco's Flowers, The City of Tallahassee, and Capital City National Bank, as well as hand written memo's listing foods and prices for meetings.
