THE FIELD UNIFORM OF GENERAL FRIEDRICH MIETH

To include: An M36 pattern field tunic by Roger Kauert, Berlin, heavy wool construction with black cotton liner. Inner pocket labeled with "General Lt F Mieth, 11/6/44". The right breast has a hand embroidered, officer's quality breast eagle in gilt wire and bullion threads, with golden/tan cotton accent threads on a cut-out, green badge cloth base. The right breast has three vertical thread loops while the left breast has three horizontal and seven vertical loops for wear of awards. The shoulder boards are of dual interwoven golden yellow gilt wire braid mounted to a red wool base and would indicated a rank of Generalleutnant. The pants are of the same material, with two broad and one narrow red sripe down each leg. There does not appear to be any mothing to either piece. There's a matching field cap by JB Holzinger, Berchtesgaden, named to "Gen Lt F Mieth, Kom Gen AK.". Moth traces and two minor repairs to the crown, badges are dull. Bright gold colored piping and chords. Size 59. Some service wear. Overall the uniform is in very good condition. Friedrich Mieth served as an officer in the first world war and in June of 1936 took command of Inf Regt 27. In 1938 he became Chief of Staff of the XII Army Corps and then Chief of the Army. In 1940 he was the head of the Ceasefire Commission in France. In 1943 he was promoted General of infantry. He was awarded the Knights cross with oak leaves.
