Lamennais (Hugues Felicité R. De, philosopher and theologian, 1782-1854) Les Philosophes, ?autograph manuscript in French, the preface in the hand of his brother Jean, the remainder in ?Lamennais' hand, 21pp., laid into ff., slightly browned, new endpapers, modern half morocco, 4to, n.d. [nineteenth century].***Ink note at beginning: "Par M. Dessaudrais-Robert, oncle de M. de la Mennais" and in another hand, "De la main de MM. Jean et Felix de Lamennais." According to the annotatrion, Robert Dessaudrais should be the author of "Les Philosophes", transcribed by Lamennais, assisted by his brother. Apparently the text of the present manuscript is identical with "Le Bon Curé", a satirical discourse written against the philosophers, recorded by Hoefeler in Nouv. Biogr. Gen. vol. XXIX, col. 183 and said to have been annotated by Lamennais and to have remained unpublished. This manuscript suggests Lamennais' authorship of at least the greater part of this satire.. |
