Certificate of Authenticity on decal on verso by Bert Stern This portfolio derives from a collection of 19 transparencies that have been missing since 1962, and were originally part of Mr. Stern's infamous "Last Sitting." This portfolio is part of 9 limited edition prints now know as "The Lost Sitting." The photographs were taken at Marilyn's last photographic session with Bert Stern in 1962 for Vogue. It was believed that the transparencies were lost forever, until now, and strictly by chance; they have recently been discovered, recovered and restored. In this portfolio there are 6 individual prints with 17 different shots of Marilyn Monroe as Jacqueline Kennedy, donning the signature black wig. Stern arranged a number of the prints as a 4 or two image grid composition, somewhat of a contact sheet montage. The prints are of a limited edition of 50, of which only 25 have been produced to date. An entire limited edition portfolio of all 9 prints of "The Lost Sitting" is now part of the permanent collection at The Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University. All prints are signed and numbered by Bert Stern and have a copyright stamp on the verso. The portfolio is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity. PLEASE NOTE: * THIS AUCTION STARTS ON SUNDAY JULY 19, 2009 AT 11:30 A.M. EST. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
