Description
Titled "Instruction" Circa 1940. From an edition of 250 the sheet size of this work is 12.25 X 16 5/8 inches and the image measures 10.5 X 12 3/8 inches. The condition is excellent, not laid down, nice and clean, 2 tiny pin points of foxing in one margin, nicely framed and archivally mounted. Creekmore Fath has entered this work as #41 in his catalog of Benton prints. In that book a quote from Benton goes as follows: "One of my students at the K.C. Art Institute found the man selling snake medicine in the pool halls of 12th Street in downtown K.C. He caught rattlesnakes and let them rot and ferment in gallon jars and sold the result as an aphrodisiac. He was also a preacher and conducted a Sunday School class. This picture shows him telling about the Bible." This fine print has the original Associated American Artists label on back.
