WM. DICKERSON (1904-1972) PENCIL SIGNED LITHOGRAPH
Description
Titled simply "Elevator" in the lower left. The simple, straightforward title of this image leaves it to the viewer to take it from there. Dickerson's works often had a strong sense something unsaid. As an important regionalist he followed his own path, depicting what he saw without fanfare or embellishment. His compositions tended to go the other way, evoking a sense of loneliness and quiet, much like the works of his good friend Edward Hopper. Except for four years at the Art Institute of Chicago, he spent his life in Kansas. He was a member of the Prairie Print Makers and a driving force in the establishment of the Witchita Art Center, an important association among regional and western artists. This work measures 9.5 x 12.5 image size on the 10.75 x 16 inch sheet.Very good condition, hinged at that top corners.
