American Cotton Batting Doll, mid-19th century, fashioned from batting around a newspaper core depicting a lady in cloak and bonnet, with pink silk stitched details and remains of stitched features, ht. 12 in., (paper and batting very fragile), accompanied by a mid-20th century newspaper article with photograph and description of a similar doll and her history; the doll described in the article was made for Elizabeth Cassel Ervin (1829-1895) by an Amish woman from Strasburg, Pennsylvania.
