Title: Autograph Letter signed by Henry Bergh, to a Mr. Morris.
Author: Bergh, Henry Description: 15 lines, in ink, on 1st page of 4-page lettersheet of the Office of the Board of Aldermen, New York City. 8x5.Henry Bergh (1811-1888), was founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and was instrumental in the founding of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. In this short letter, he takes on cats: "The cat question, which has always been confined to the back yards, has now come to the front. I have prepared the draft of an ordinance, which I would like to have approved by the Board of Aldermen; and as you are always doing some good - will you please take charge of it, and get it enacted for the sale of suffering humanity as we as the wretched cats..."
