Good "Ames" U. S. Cavalry Saber, dated 1906, touchmarked "A. S. Co./"Flaming Bomb"/1906", presented to the American silent-screen actor Buck Conners (1880-1947) by the Mexican bandit-revolutionary Pancho Villa (1878-1923), and so indicated on its engraved plaque, l. 41". The American silent-screen star George Washington "Buck" Conners was a swashbuckler who sympathized with the revolutionary ideas of the bandit-revolutionary Pancho Villa and eventually joined his forces. Conners was also an enthusiastic collector of souvenirs of his varied experiences. These souvenirs included the Wild West painting of Charles Marion Russell (1864-1926), Buffalo Bill memorabilia and historic firearms. Therefore, it is logical that Conners would have enthusiastically accepted a souvenir of his Mexican revolutionary experiences with Pancho Villa, that such a souvenir took the form of a fine weapon was utterly in accord with Conners' collecting interests.
