Description
Description: ARTIST: ANONYMOUS SIZE: 38 1/2 x 58 7/8 in./97.8 x 149.7 cm PRINTER: F. Appel, Paris DESCRIPTION: Started in 1891 by Alexandre Darracq, Gladiator was one of the dozens of bicycle companies that made their way onto the market when the cycling craze zoomed. As was the case with most of them, economic realities soon hit. In 1896, Gladiator merged with Clément and Humber; the combined British-financed company kept all three names going for a time. Here, a cheeky lass takes a break from her countryside tour to knowingly point out the hovering trade name while she fans herself cool. (Bicycle; Art Nouveau)
