President GEORGE WASHINGTON- Autograph Doc Signed

George Washington (1732-1799) 1st President. 8 ½" x 3 ½" autograph document signed, Mount Vernon, March 23, 1788. "Received from John L. Mercer Esq. in September last eighty four Bushs and three pecks of Wheat at four shilling & six pence…and in Feby. Last, one hundred and thirty barrls. of corn…which said sums are to be payed to his credit…." This pristine document is matted with an engraving and framed to 19" x 11". Less than one year later on April 30, 1789, Washington would take the oath as our first president. During the period when this receipt was written Washington, having returned to Mount Vernon after the Revolutionary War, experimented with crop rotation, bred hunting dogs and horses, investigated the development of Potomac River navigation and undertook various commercial ventures.
