games table, rich dense figured mahogany throughout with white pine secondary and maple gate, block-front form with fold-over mahogany top over dovetailed drawer, cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees and ball-and-claw feet, original carved knee returns, legs retain old dark surface, Boston area, 1760-1780, 28-1/2 x 32 x 15 in. (opens to 29 in.). Excellent condition overall, minor drawer lip repair, minor chip at upper corner of skirt, top lacking original glue blocks, minor grain checking, normal dents and wear, brass drawer pull replaced, crack and minor warping to back of stationary leaf, one paint drip. Provenance: Descended in the Harwood family of Littleton, Massachusetts. Reserve: $25,000 The Harwood home in Littleton was built about 1754, probably by Captain Joseph Harwood, son of Peter Harwood of Concord and Littleton. The table descended in the family to Jonathan Harwood, grandfather of the consigner, who was born in Littleton in 1892.
