Dutch Inlaid Mahogany Dry Sink, fourth quarter 18th century, in the neoclassical taste, the banded and canted rectangular top hinged and opening to an interior metal sink, fold-out leaves and a hinged shelf on the interior of the top, above a case fitted with a single central cupboard door, centered by an ebonized panel with polychromed avian accents in the chinoiserie manner, flanked to either side by like panels, the whole raised on canted, tapering square legs with banded accents and ending in brass ball feet, h. 37-1/2", w. 51", d. 22-1/2". Provenance: Private collection, Sarasota, Florida.
Condition reportIn good polished and restored condition. The piece exhibits shrinkage, veneer repairs, mars and wear consistent with age and use, most notably age-related shrinkage cracks in each side panel, smaller ones in the top, and to the interior top. The totality of wear and restorations give the piece a nice patina. There are several veneer losses to the banding along the rear edge of the top. There are a few sections (about 6" total length) of loss to the rope stringing on the front edge of the top. There is one loss to the banding (1/4" long) around the door perimeter, and a loss to a molding at the back edge of one side, approximately 1-1/2" long by 3/8" wide. The interior metal washbasin appears to be a replacement. The painted surface exhibit indications of restorations/inpainting.
