One of a pair of marine oil paintings attributed to Thomas Buttersworth (1768-1842). According to the engraved label, The second line ship H. M. S. "Albion", in the background, is a 74 gun second ship of the line and Captained by I. A. Ommondey. in 1827 this ship served in the Battle of Navarino for Greek independence. She was built in 1763. The H. M. Frigate Glasgow, sailing with the wind in the foreground is a 50 gun vessel Captained L. A. Maudey. Both are off the Scottish coast in 1826. Within a later gilt wood frame and with sight measurements of 19" X 23 1/4". The painting relined and with some scattered scoring or loss of varnish throughout the canvas.
