RARE CIVIL WAR ERA PENNSYLVANIAN BELSNICKLE

A true attic find, this Belsnickle wears all of his original fabric clothing trimmed in black rabbit fur and period leather shoes. He has a composition head with glass eyes and horsehair beard. An original "Partridge & Richardson, North Eighth St. Philadelphia" store label is still adhered to the sole of his shoe. This classic 1860-1870 example was made at a time when the "Santa" image varied widely throughout the world and shows a strong German Christmas influence. One of only five known, he was found with a group of miniature toys that he carries. 25" h.

Condition report

Some moth holes in his socks, but in overall (Exc. Cond.) with strong colors and wonderful detail.
