Whyte (Alexander) Velina. A Moral Tale

Whyte (Alexander) Velina. A Moral Tale,
2 vol., first edition, pp(6)216; xix(1)196(4)adverts, some chipping and soiling to edges, contemporary half calf over drab boards, rubbed and worn with some early repairs, bookplate of Constance Strachey/Sutton Court/1887 vol. 1, and booksellers ticket in each volume [not in Sadlier or Wolff], 8vo, for William Miller, 1812.

***Seemingly Whyte's only novel. Noting in his preface during seven years of residence "convincedme that some plan of instruction for the negroes, was not only expedient, but a matter of imperious necessity". This novel made an important contribution anti-slavery movement promoted by the plantation revolts which followed the abolition of the Atlantic slave trade..
