768. ERNEST HEMINGWAY (1899-1961). Classic novelist and short-story writer whose writings and personal life exerted a profound influence on American writers of his time. He was recipient of both the Nobel Prize for Literature and Pulitzer Prize for his Old Man and The Sea (1952). His book, Across The River and Into The Trees, 308pp, 6"x8½", Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1950. First Edition. First Printing. Darkly inscribed and signed in black on first free endpaper, "To Raul Santana with al good wishes from his friend..." Book with dark black topstain with gilt signature on cover evidences sunning to spine with severe fading; light shelfwear to extremities, especially to corner tips with very slight loss of cloth; front paste-down lightly abraded vertically and across top edge; signature page lightly toned with owners name neatly penned at top edge well away from strong inscription area. Internally clean and tightly bound. First state dust jacket with $3.00 price imprint and photo of Hemingway on back cover VG with removable "Signed" sticker at lower spine. Some edgewear to extremities, especially to top and heel of spine with few tiny nicks, tears and abrasions with tiny paper loss; else bright. Contained in matching black slipcase. Est: $2000-5000
