Paul V. Ambrose and Drew J. Bauer present: These are the #400E and the #400T Black Steam Engine and Tender that Lionel made in Standard Gauge circa 1933. These are some of the rarest Lionel Production Items as Lionel did not make many black 400E Steam Engines but did make this particular model for the work train that was catalogued that year. This variation has black painted bands and a later version tender. The consigner purchased this from the original owner 30+ years ago as the complete work train set, and since the Engine's wheels had disintegrate, had not been used since the 1940s. The consigner, a post-war collector, did not know the rarity of this variation and gave it to a local train shop to have it re-wheeled and cleaned. Our Opinion is that the Engine and Tender are generally in Excellent Plus Condition, very clean with the only major issues (besides the re-wheeling) some light rub marks on the paint from it being cleaned by the hobby shop and a scuff on the edge of the cab's roof where the paint has rubbed off and there might have been an attempt to straighten it. No Boxes. Other than the re-wheeling, All Original in our Opinion. Please add $200.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance.
