Robert Brady (1928-1986, Iowa). Major Discovery! Robert Brady paintings hidden away for 60 years, found in Iowa art vault. Oil, tempera, mixed technique encaustic on canvas. Signed and dated, 1948. Entered in the Iowa State Fair, 1949. Image is 23" w x 43"h. Frame is 26" w x 46"h. Excellent condition. Est. $1,000-1,500. Ship: $55 Robert Brady was born in Iowa and traveled extensively. In 1961 he purchased Casa de la Torre, in Cuernavaca Mexico and began collecting everything from pre-Columbian art, Spanish Colonial paintings, religious saints and crosses, to works by Rufino Tamayo, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Miguel Covarrubias, Paul Klee and Francisco Toledo which eventually grew to 1,400 notable pieces. A man of great wealth, he threw lavish parties and entertained royalty, diplomats and the international jet set. He even created The Josephine Baker Room in honor of the exotic dancer who came to stay with him.
