Rookwood Porcelain, Barrett, women, 12 1/4"

Dramatic Rookwood Turquoise Blue vase with several women and animals done in 1935 by Elizabeth Barrett. Barrett seems to have been the only decorator at Rookwood to do these "Black on Blue" figurative pieces and this is the largest example we have seen. Measuring 12 1/4 inches tall, the vase includes three rather Valkyrian woman, one holding a knife and shield, the second has a snake coiled around her left arm and the third holds a large bird while a scary cat walks behind her. Marks include the Rookwood logo, the date, Special shape number S 2136 and the incised monogram of Ms. Barrett. Typical of Turquoise Blue, there is fine overall crazing and a small grinding chip on the base.

Condition report

Light crazing, small grinding chip at base
