Rookwood Limoges pitcher, Nichols, 1882, 9"

Charming Rookwood Limoges style pitcher decorated by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1882. Done on red clay, the piece shows an Asian figure sitting above a fence, watching geese fly overhead. There is also lots of fired on gold and bamboo in the background. Impressed "Rookwood 1882" on the bottom and incised with Mrs. Nichols initials. Although not so marked, this is shape 56. Height 9 inches. Uncrazed with a break across the base of the handle with a little loss of clay.
