New England coastal scene with sailing vessels and fishing huts on a beach, signed lower left E.D.R. 1886", verso on stretcher "E.R. Dowd 1886", oil on canvas, 10-1/8 x 16 in.; original 19th century gilt wood and composition cove-molding frame. Original stretcher and tacking edge, crackle, cupping, cleavage, patch verso; frame resurfaced, loss to composition. Provenance: Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York.
