yacht in stormy seas, unsigned, oil on canvas, American School, 20 x 24 in.; early 20th century gilt wood frame with label verso "Richard Nichols…Boston". Lined with wax and linen, two periods of restoration, retouch primarily at edges and in sails affecting 25 percent of surface, crackle, cupping, cleavage, flaking; frame with resurfaced areas, abrasions. Provenance: Estate of the Late William and Priscilla Carlebach, Mystic, Connecticut and Bedford, New York.
